In a maybe not so distant future, Earth is under siege from beast-like demons. They come through ‘rips’ or ‘breaches’ between their dimension and this one, and seem to want nothing more than to kill and destroy – and, on rare occasions, kidnap.
To combat these demons, vampires and humans have allied, returning to ancient weapons such as swords and axes, the only weapons that can wound demons. And sometimes, in the middle of endless fights, these alliances turn into something more, and love blooms in the most unlikely places…
With this series, I returned to the old partnerships from The Pacts series, but now vampires and demons are equals in their fight against demons.
In Fangs and Lullabies, and the sequel Demons and Lullabies, I wanted to explore the very beginning of the demon invasion, how it affects the families of fighters, and even give clues as to what caused it. The story shows two vampires, Andrew and Nicholas, raising a child whose existence only became possible when his mother rediscovered old, forgotten magic.
In Aria and Will, I wanted to show the fight against demons from two points of view. Vampire Wilhelm has been fighting demons for so long, he doesn’t quite remember why he fights – until he meets a bright-eyed child who reminds him how precious life is. It’s this same child, after she becomes a grown woman, who pushes him into accepting bigger responsibilities. Ariadne, on the other hand, knew she wanted to become a fighter from very early on, and she never wavers, not even after she is turned into a vampire. Her only hesitations concern Will, and what she feels toward him.
Blurred Nights is the first part of the Blurred Trilogy, which shows the beginning of the victory against demons as humans and vampires finally figure out how to close the breaches through which demons invade this dimension. Blurred Nights focuses on two vampires, Marc and his Childe Blake, who both become attracted to the same human woman while fighting alongside her. In this first installment, Marc and Blake reconcile after some deep tensions threatened to break them apart, and Blake successfully seduced Kate.
In the second installment, Blurred Bloodlines, Kate’s growing relationships with Blake and Marc come to an abrupt end when Blake is taken prisoner by demons.
In the third installment, Blurred Memories, Blake, his Sire Marc and their human lover Kate are going back to the fight against demons after months of trying to find again their place in each other’s lives… but is Blake ready to fight and love?
In I’ll Be Home For Christmas, we return to Newhaven, with very short cameos from Will and Aria. This short story focuses on the end of the fight, when a mage, Selena, helps to close the breach. Returning to her lover Anders still bursting from magic, she offers him a night neither of them will ever forget.
